Perfection. From the source.
Like fine wine, whose flavour comes from the local conditions of the areas where it is grown, tea is affected by soil, altitude, and even weather. Therefore, where the tea is grown is as important as the process it goes through. And, as with the grape, from which can be made into Red, White or Rose wines, tender tea leaves can become Black tea, Green tea, or Oolong or red tea.
Twinings travels thousands of miles through exotic tea gardens across many continents to capture the best possible teas and flavours.
Did you know?
In China, as each guest is presented with a cup of tea, he or she may thank their server by tapping, or knocking, their fingers on the table three times.
At Twinings, the tea buyers are the tea blenders, our tea experts. Our experts travel to the finest tea gardens to source the right tea leaves that they then blend into our teas. These tea experts are then able to bring the world’s best teas to your table. Not owning the tea gardens ourselves gives us a great advantage: we’re not tied to our own producers, which means we are free to select the very best tea – every single time.
Preparing Tea
Tea, temperature and terroir.
For more than 300 years, Twinings has been able to develop long-standing, sustainable relationships with growers and agents who have an intimate knowledge of our requirements.
The taste of tea is greatly affected by “terroir”, changes in weather, soil and other geographic characteristics. When one tea garden has had an unfavorable growing season, Twinings is well-positioned to select tea from another garden, and ensure uninterrupted, consistent quality.
In fact, our expert blenders will taste teas from thousands of different tea estates to find the perfect leaves for our teas, relying on more than three centuries of experience in searching, finding and sourcing the finest leaves that will be blended into Twinings teas.
